“So, you’re on TV, right?” It’s a question I often get after telling people what I do on the weekends. To be specific, I produce the Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts. But unlike reporting or other on-air talent, most folks don’t know what producers actually do. Hell, I hardly knew until I became one.
Talk about a superstar!
Friday, June 18 Early morning today! Since producers are on vacation/getting married, they’ve been doing some shifting, and I ended up working with just Chris Ludlow, the morning Executive Producer.
Saturday, June 5 This morning, we covered Dam to Dam, a race through Downtown Des Moines. KCCI is the media sponsor, so we covered it and did several live shots for the live Saturday morning show.
Thursday, May 20 I was photography today, but I did more in-house stuff. KCCI News Director Dave Busiek and Kevin Cooney looked at the stories Addison and I had edited the night before. It’s amazing how much is learned from listening to Dave for five minutes (he’s been a news director for a long time).
My first week at KCCI: A day with Steve Karlin, “Next Gen News,” WHY we do what we do, learning the ropes of producing, and an introduction to investigative reporting.
